Materials and care
Natural materials that deserve informed care
A palm-frond roof is a natural product. Understanding its components and how to look after it helps keep its appearance and performance.
Roof components
Palm fronds
The exposed layer that gives the roof its look and texture, prepared and sorted before the cover is fabricated.
Khoos and rope
Traditional elements used for binding and detailing, depending on the design.
Roof layers
Additional layers beneath the fronds where rain protection or special treatment is needed.
Supporting structure
Defined by the design and the project, with responsibility for building it agreed in the scope of work.
General care recommendations
- Inspect the roof visually from time to time, and after strong winds or rain.
- Remove leaves and dust that collect on and around the roof.
- Keep open flames and direct heat away from the roof, such as grills, burners and candles.
- Avoid spraying the roof with high-pressure water.
- Watch for any change in the evenness of the cover or the security of the edges, and contact us to address it early.
- Look out for birds or insects and treat them with a specialist.
These are general recommendations. Each project is handed over with care guidance suited to its location and use.
